Consumption, feed-in, combined or island plant?

There are four basic forms of connecting to the public grid. Which one applies to your project determines the sizing of the station.

Consumption

Power consumption by businesses, residential areas or EV charging hubs.

Feed-in

Generation from renewable or conventional sources and feed-in to the grid.

Combined plant

Consumption and feed-in combined – e.g. operation with rooftop PV or grid-serving storage.

Island plant

Fully decoupled from the grid, covering its own power demand without feed-in.

Sizing follows the application rule VDE-AR-N 4110 for connection to the medium-voltage grid as well as the grid operator's technical connection conditions (TAB). We clarify both for you.

Answers about transfer & transformer stations

The transfer station is the handover point between your plant and the public medium-voltage grid. It contains the medium-voltage switchgear, the metering equipment and the protection required by the grid operator.

The transfer station handles the handover to the grid. The transformer station additionally converts between medium and low voltage. In a compact station both functions are often combined in one unit.

It depends on your grid operator's requirements, the distance to the grid connection point and the connection power. We check this as part of the free initial sizing.

Yes. We ship transfer and transformer stations made in Europe worldwide and coordinate transport, customs and on-site commissioning.

Compact stations with a footprint under 10 m² require no permit in any German state. For international sites we check the local requirements.
